IceLANDIC SAUNAARCHITECTURE | 2018 | FREELANCE
While living in Iceland I didn't come across a proper sauna, which gave me a spark to start designing one. I began by investigating the area of Reykjavik to find a suitable location for it. I found Hafravatn, a small quite lake surrounded by mountains and simple cottages with a peaceful shore, that had a successful tree plantation area behind it. The surroundings of Hafravatn were inviting for a sauna, that could be build next to the shore with the beautiful and familiar pine forest backdrop. The shape and material choices have been selected to blend the design into its surroundings. The design proposal is meant to be used as a public sauna, where functions have been divided into two separate huts. The left one would serve as a dressing room and sanitary area and the right one would facilitate washing up space and a sauna. |
